WHY IS DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION IMPORTANT TO US?
Our parents and guardians entrust us to match their child with a mentor that will ignite and inspire their potential. Our Bigs and families look to our staff to help navigate conversations and support their Littles during this time. 48% of the children we serve are children of color. Far too many of our kids deal with the pain and trauma that systemic racism has inflicted for generations – a reality that the world appears to be waking up to in a meaningful way. We stand with our children, our families, our staff, and volunteers against racism and bigotry. The fact that you are supporting this mission, is a fact that you have made efforts to be a part of the solution. We want to thank you for that! But there is more work to be done. Our staff is developing additional resources, training, and tools to help our Bigs, Littles, families, and supporters stand in solidarity with our black and brown communities. We must continue to do more to ensure that our staff and mentors receive training and support in cultural humility, implicit biases, and how to do this anti-racism work. We are committed to providing all volunteers seeking to mentor these training opportunities.
