Auburn local Aaron Schaffer will represent his hometown with Team Schaffer. He’s got a BIG fundraising goal of $5,000. Aaron Schaffer was introduced to Big Brothers Big Sisters through a work lunch with CEO Josette Rider. Schaffer was just looking for volunteer opportunities in the area. Though he soon found himself involved with the Finance Committee and serving as board president for the two years.
“I really enjoyed getting to know the other board members and created a lot of good relationships from my time there, so from a personal standpoint. I was not a Big or anything like that, but I have grown to call other board members that I was involved with very good friends now,” Schaffer said.
During this time, Aaron Schaffer has participated in Bowl For Kids’ Sake no less than six times.
“I think it’s a fun event to go to and spend time with friends in a casual atmosphere and support a very worthy cause,” Schaffer said.
Why he supports BBBS
When asked why he supports Big Brothers Big Sisters, Schaffer said, “I believe that the ability to influence a child or young adult is priceless. You can change the entire path of their life. I believe that one-to-one, very personal relationships are a great way to improve someone’s situation. If you can work with somebody that either has a shared experience that can help you navigate the good times and the bad in life, that’s best done with a 1:1 mentor-mentee relationship. You can change the trajectory of someone’s life that way.”
Members of the community can help today by donating to Schaffer’s team online or by registering their own five-person team. Each team member is encouraged to raise at least $100 in pledges, and incentive prizes are awarded to those that raise more. Prizes vary by how much is raised and may include t-shirts, portable coolers and grills, on-the-go totes, BlueTooth speakers, plush blankets and tailgate chairs with cases.
